Product Description
A client wanted to honor a retiring colleague: Army officer, scholar, mathematician. He conceived of a fitting emblem – a slide rule.
Our task thus became how to present this emblem.
We arrived at the Greek letter Pi, which is one of the most important – and quixotic as its value has yet to be absolutely established – basic mathematical icons in the arithmetical pantheon.
The client abjured your basic brass plaque for the inscribed encomium, and so we had an alder base plate laser etched.
The letter Pi is formed from mahogany, dowel joined and a copper hold-fast to it to support the slide rule.
I hope that I will be invited to the presentation ceremony.
