Mountain and Sky

Product Description

Or Ego and Subconscious, or Eruption and Lava Tunnel, or Dream and Reality … it’s up to you.

The genesis of this whimsy came in the form of a piece of firewood given me by the lumber maker and beer tasting room finish carpenter of Lincoln City, Oregon. It looked like it wanted to be something other than burn scrap.

In looking at it, it seemed to me like a hole in clouds, but what is sky without Earth? Coincidentally, I had a cut-off from a cypress plank, a live edge with interesting features.

They came together as if it was meant to be.

The only challenge was how to elevate and suspend Sky over and behind Earth.

This was simply accomplished using dowel supports vertically into oak feet (from scavenged wine barrel staves) and horizontally using lag screws through dowels.
