Olga’s Heroic Frame

Olga wanted a frame for her heroic bas-relief. Somewhat like a cross between a gothic window and a door.

A big, doorframe-sized frame.

Crafting the arch was only one of the challenges; Olga also wanted the frame to break down into two pieces for easier transport.

I began by building a stand on which to construct the frame.

Next, the relatively simple lower frame could be built.

The upper arch was full scale drawn and the arch parts – front and back clad with thin ply – were formed in left and right sides.

Once the arch was formed, I could contrive slip-joints between the upper and lower parts and be fastened with screws from the back and inside, out of sight.

The assembly stand came in handy as Olga used it for display purposes before it was permanently installed.
